Speed Networking Event - Meet Mental Healthcare Grad & Med Students

Thinking about applying to graduate school in a mental health-related field but not sure if the program is a good fit for you or your professional goals? Tired of bouncing between department website descriptions, faculty biographies, and FAQ pages? Want to know what it’s really like to be a student in that program you’ve had your eye on? Then join the McGill Student Association for Collaborative Mental Healthcare for a night of Mental Health Speed Networking!

What is Mental Health Speed Networking? It’s a speed dating, networking, and information session combined, with a focus on mental health-related fields like psychology, medicine, psychiatry, nursing, occupational therapy, and more!

How it Works

1. You come with your questions about a mental health-related graduate program (or two)

2. We provide you with students currently enrolled these programs to answer your questions

Graduate students from a variety of mental-health related disciplines will be seated at tables. At the beginning of each round, you will have the opportunity to sit with a graduate student enrolled in a program of your choosing for 5 minutes. Use this time to ask all your program-related questions in a one-on-one environment. After each 5-minute round, you can move to another table or stick around to chat after the rounds conclude.

Confirmed Disciplines:

- Medicine - Clinical Psychology - Counselling Psychology - School & Applied Child Psychology - Neuroscience - Psychiatry - Human Genetics - Nursing - Occupational Therapy - Public Health

Goals

- Help students make informed decisions when deciding if graduate school will aid them in achieving their professional goals

- Provide first-hand perspectives for prospective graduate school applicants on the realities of grad life in mental-health related programs

About the Organizers

The McGill Student Association for Collaborative Mental Healthcare (CMH) is a student run group that focuses on mental healthcare from collaborative viewpoints. The CMH core membership is made up of 30 students from over 20 different graduate and undergraduate programs at McGill that are studying in areas related to mental health, both in terms of research and clinical work. Core members are studying in programs such as social work, psychology, family medicine, psychiatry, nursing, neuroscience, art history and occupational therapy. This group meets every two weeks; meetings include developing projects, sharing knowledge, language and perspectives from different fields, and examining current aspects of mental healthcare.

The CMH community partners are clinicians, researchers and professors who support CMH and offer resources, talks, workshops or guidance. CMH is planning networking, advocacy and community events for the 2017 winter semester. We are also planning a conference that will take place on March 25.
