MSc Social and Transcultural Psychiatry

I am a first-year master’s student in the Division of Social and Transcultural Psychiatry. Before my master’s, I completed my Bachelor’s in Psychology at McGill University. My passion for advocating for mental health comes from my involvement with McGill’s Peer Support Centre (PSC). I was an executive member at the PSC for two years during my undergrad, which is a student-run organization that offers free, non-judgmental, and confidential support service run by students who are trained in a variety of topics.

Collaborative mental health care for me is a means to help provide better access to mental health services and decrease the stigma attached to mental disorders by bringing in a range of different models of practice from experts in a variety of fields, as well as patients, their families, and caregivers.

My current research interest is focused on parental supervision, child welfare, and global mental health. I am interested in learning how parental supervision and discipline is influenced by culture, and how immigrants understand adequate/inadequate supervision in a new setting. I am also interested in giving a voice to children and youth to understand how they perceive their physical and mental health after migrating to a new country.
