Oliver Schoales

BA Psychology

My name is Oliver Schoales and I am a U3 student majoring in psychology. I am also taking a minor in behavioural science. I have been interested in psychology since I was in high school and have always had a fascination with learning more about mental health and the ways in which it impacts all of us. I believe that mental health care is one of the most important issues facing our society and that we can all work to help ensure good mental health in those around us and in ourselves. I love taking all kinds of courses in psychology however particularly I like courses related to social and clinical psychology. I have always been interested in mental health care and am excited to get involved in as many ways as I can. I currently volunteer at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute as a research assistant. To me, collaborative mental health means working together to achieve the best possible outcomes for ourselves and for society at large. I believe that in all fields, and in the field of mental health care in particular, working together, across disciplines is very important and helps to ensure the best outcomes possible. I joined CMH as I thought that it would be a good opportunity to get involved in the field of mental health care and talk with people in different fields about their views on mental health care and its future. I am currently considering a career in clinical psychology however I have not entirely made up my mind. Nonetheless, I hope that I can keep the spirit of collaboration with me in whatever I end up doing.
