MScA Nursing

CMH is an amazing opportunity to bring the interdisciplinary spirit that McGill tries to foster in its healthcare students out into the community. I believe brainstorming ideas and discussing research and world events with students of other disciplines will allow us to acquire knowledge and perspective we wouldn’t normally be exposed to.

I acquired my undergraduate degree in Psychology here at McGill in 2015 with a minor in Social Studies of Medicine. I have been working as a research assistant in a health psychology/clinical epidemiology laboratory at the MUHC. I’ve been involved in research on mindfulness and health behaviors in pregnant women and in my supervisor’s research on the mental health of pregnant women and of new fathers here in Canada.

As a nursing student, during my clinical rotation in a mental health setting, I was struck by how little access the patients had to psychotherapy. I encountered the stereotypical mental health institution situation where solely medication was relied upon. I realized that improving this situation was important to me and so mental health nursing was the direction I wanted to go in career-wise!
