Recent neuroscience graduate, I am fascinated by the brain, its complexity and disorders. I worked on several projects touching on animal models of Parkinson’s Disease and ultra-high-field imaging of myelination due to exercise in humans. For my graduate studies I decided to integrate my neuroscience background with the psychiatry discipline to research clinical populations and help prevent as well as treat mental disorders. I am currently working on a meta-analysis of cognitive and structural impairments in schizophrenia in addition to my thesis which is to identify associations between structural and functional hippocampal centrality, verbal memory, and functional outcomes in first-episode psychosis (FEP) using ultra-high-field 7T MRI neuroimaging. As an aspiring neuropsychologist, collaborative mental healthcare highly interests me because I truly believe in the power of knowledge and practice transfer for the advantage of patients. I think that the complexity of mental health requires a holistic approach to treatment that can only be attained when all the relevant actors collaborate and share plans for interventions. I hope that my time at CMH will allow me to broaden my knowledge about mental health from different disciplines and participate in engaging discussions about the most pressing issues in mental health.
